The Pedal Mettle "earn-a-bike" program is truly a unique opportunity for youth. After attending sessions on bicycle maintenance, repair, and safety, youth are able to take home a bike of their very own.
Along with staff and key volunteers like Kris Nelson and Eric Brozell from Bike Erie, participants learn parts and terminology, repairs, decorate a bike to their liking, and complete a safety component at the end of the sessions. Thanks to many donations of used bicycles, tools, helmets, and decor such as paint and patterned duct tape, the program continues to be a success and is in its third year of operation.
