HOUSING & HOME OWNERSHIP

Genesis program

Our Genesis program provides quality, affordable housing while working with families to build financial savings as well as practical skills required for first‐time home buyers.

To boost neighborhood home ownership rates, financial assistance is provided toward closing expenses if a program graduate purchases their home within our target neighborhoods.

How does it work?

Home ownership preparation typically involves 12 to 36 months of mentoring. The family is engaged in financial literacy, budgeting, and credit-building education, as well as basic home maintenance and repair.

As they work toward traditional financing and bank approval, we connect each family with realtors and mortgage loan officers to explore options.

Each month, we set aside a portion of the family’s rent, to be presented as a gift at closing if the family buys a home within the SSJNN service area.
